Study Skills is a course developed to address several important areas in the lives of students to enable them to be successful while they are making their way through their high school years and beyond. The first part of the class will focus on teaching students strategies to help them become more efficient and effective learners.
Study Skills is a course developed to address several important areas in the lives of students to enable them to be successful while they are making their way through their high school years and beyond. The first part of the class will focus on teaching students strategies to help them become more efficient and effective learners.
Some of the strategies covered are:
The second area addressed in this course expects students to think about their future and to discover what career paths motivate them, how to weigh their own strengths and weaknesses to set realistic goals for their future careers, what steps they must take in order to obtain that career and how to deal with roadblocks they many encounter on the way. Finally, this course provides a place each day for students to have time to finish tests,complete homework, ask questions and receive additional support and instruction.
Study Skills Schedule:
Monday: Direct study skill instruction/ IEP preparation(Transition Goals)
Tuesday: Homework Time/ IEP preparation (Transition Goals)/Organization
Wednesday: Direct study skill instruction/ IEP preparation (Transition Goals)
Thursday: Homework Time/ IEP preparation (Transition Goals)/Organization
Friday: Direct study skill instruction/ IEP preparation(Transition Goals) / Homework Time
My Expectations:
1. Students will know their Synergy password-(This gives the student an opportunity to become responsible for their grades and missing work)
2. Students will bring materials to class including specific assignment materials to receive help.
3. Students will know their IEP accommodations and how to request them
4. Students will be involved in writing their IEP
5. Students will use their student planner/homework log
6. Students will use time wisely in class.
7. Students will keep materials organized.
